Email from Motion Picture Solutions

In the last couple of days we have received multiple inquiries from clients regarding an email from a company called Motion Picture Solutions, Ltd.  The email contains a zip file containing a KDM.

Motion Picture Solutions Ltd is a company contracted by some studios or distributors to handle KDM distribution for their content.  They are essentially an alternative to Deluxe that some studios are opting to use.

The zip files contain test stock and a KDM for the test stock that is unique to the servers that they have on file for your venue.  The purpose of this test stock is to confirm the proper operation of your servers prior to reopening.  It does not make any changes to your server.

While running this content is not mandatory, it is not a bad idea.  This will give you the piece of mind that your system is running properly.

If you have deleted their email, either accidentally or on purpose, and wish to obtain this content, you may contact them directly at kdm@motionpicturesolutions.com and request that a replacement be sent out.  They can also answer support questions via telephone but it is an international call at +011-44 (0) 20 7751 7001. Each zip package is unique to a particular venue and will not work at other locations.

While Total Cinema Solutions is not affilliated with Motion Picture Solutions Ltd in any manner, we are available to assist cinemas with restoring their venues to operation.  We can be reached at:

(888)422-4778

Here is the response that we received from Motion Picture Solutions, Ltd.

Hello Brian,

Thank-you for your email,

Please accept my apologies for any confusion caused.

I can answer some of these questions shorthanded now for you, but I will put you in touch with our Domestic Support Leads who can elaborate further,

The emails should be treated as a regular KDM and Content package and I can assure you there is no reason for alarm.

The KDMs function the same manner as a key for an encrypted DCP, locked to the specific server. We are happy to re-send these if any have been deleted.

Because of the Coronavirus and the closure of cinemas for extended periods of time, severs can remain dormant which can cause issues with the playback of encrypted content. The email received is an encryption test KDM with content, this can be used to ensure the servers clock is still in sync, when theatres re-open. There is more technical advantages to running this test content too, which I'm sure our team can elaborate further on.

Many thanks and I hope you are well

I hope that this clears up any questions or concerns that you may have.  As always, we are here to keep your venue up and running.
