When trying to ingest a KDM from a thumb drive, the server does not see the KDM on the drive and/ or will not ingest it.
This is a fairly common support call and usually is caused by one of two reasons:
1. The KDM has been issued with an incorrect server or server serial number. This often happens after a server replaced. We have see frequent occurances where a servre has been replaced and the key providers notified only to have new keys issued with the old server information. The first step is to insure that the key has the correct server information in it.
2. The common reason that a KDM on a thumb drive cannot be read is that the thumb drive is formatted in a format that the server cannot read. This happens frequently with Mac users. The thumb drive being used MUST be formatted in one of the following formats:
- EXT 2 or 3 (these are the native formats that DCP drives are shipped in)
- NTFS
- FAT
- FAT32
The thumb drive MUST NOT be formatted in:
- ExFAT
- HFS+ (Mac format)
Windows machines can natively format FAT, FAT32 and NTFS.
Mac machines can natively format FAT
There are third party programs, both paid and shareware that can be used on Windows or Mac machines to read/write EXT2/3/4 if you feel so inclined. Here's some that we've found:
For Windows
- EXT2FSD - We've been experiencing issues with this under Windows 10 and it doesn't appear to be getting updated
- Paragon Software makes several utilities that will work with Windows and EXT2/3/4
For Mac
Paragon software makes NTFS for MAC and also extFS for Mac
